The unique neighborhood of Ormewood Park was named after an official whose name was Aquilla J. Orme with the Atlanta Electric Light and Trolley Company in the early 1900´s.He extended the downtown streetcar to include the Old Soldiers Home on East Confederate.
After World War I many brick cottages and Craftsman Bungalows were being built. Then later towards the end of World War II a second growth spurt was represented by a number of framed cottages and ranch style homes. There were also a number of Victorian homes built here which today are experiencing ongoing restoration.
Ormewood Park is just one of the six neighborhoods included in the S.A.N.D.S. which stands for South Atlantans for Neighborhood Development, an organization committed to re-development of the Southeast area of Atlanta Real Estate.
As you drive through the town you may notice many areas that are transforming especially on Moreland Avenue. Glenwood Park´s 25 plus acres is also experiencing a dramatic change. The growth is exciting and you can be in on the ground floor of the progress taking place here. You can find Ormewood Park South of the I-20 between Moreland Avenue and East Confederate Avenue.
